The Wisp is based on Will O' The Wisp which are a type of fairy or ghost described in the folklore of Great Britain and Ireland. They were believed to be evil spirits or "impure" souls that haunted marshes at night.

The Wisps ability name, Will-o’-the-Wisp, might be a reference to the game Ori and the Will of the Wisps, where the Wisps are blue spirits imbodying different core parts of the forest the game is set in.
